Hello there! And WELCOME. My name is Blair, and I am the creator of The Subversive Supper.
Who am I?
In short, I am a homebody, homesteader, minimalist, and beauty seeker in the mundane. I am a feminist, and a teetotaler. I am an INFP, enneagram type 4, and an Aquarius-rising Virgo. I am a maker, mother, lover, seeker.
Along with my wife and our daughter, I homestead a few acres in upstate New York. I met my wife 9 years ago, and after living for five in San Francisco, and then in Philadelphia, we made our urban exodus. We bought a few acres of land, built a 100% solar powered energy-efficient home, and jumped into homesteading. We have chickens, gardens (vegetable, culinary herb, medicinal herb), a berry patch, the start of a small-ish 1/2acre orchard (apples, plus peach, cherry and apricot), maple trees that we tap, and we do a lot of fermenting and sprouting. We are saving and trading our own seeds, and are trying our hand at propagating new plants. Last year, we were able to produce approximately 50% of our total food during the growing season (one quarter of our total food for the year). Our three year goal is to produce as close to 100% of our fresh food as possible. We have many exciting projects on the table for this coming year, which I will share with you in the posts to come!
In our home there is a lot of time and energy spent on food - planning and planting for food, growing food, harvesting food, preparing food, preserving food, talking about food, and enjoying food! I have created this page to share our favorite recipes, strategies, and lessons in becoming more in touch with where to food comes from, how it nourishes you, and how much enjoyment it brings you.
I will share with you our homestead happenings, tips for modern homemaking an eco-friendly home, and the start of our homeschooling adventures.
I will also share with you some of the many things that I find inspiring, moving and that bring meaningfulness to the many mundane bits of life. Because ultimately, for me, this is all about living simply, living intentionally, and revering my life.
I hope to create a community of folks from many walks. I hope for this space to grow and flourish. And I hope to learn from you all in return!
I would really love to have you follow along with our family as we continue this adventure of modern homesteading. The best way to do so is to check back often, and to sign up for my newsletter. I will send you a little love letter on Sundays to update you on our happenings, and to wish you a peaceful transition to your next week. The form to sign up is at the bottom of this page!
